A High-Octane First Period Sets the Tone
The Montreal Canadiens dismantled the host Dallas Stars 5-2 on Thursday at American Airlines Center, securing a decisive victory that moved their record to 8-3-2. The game was defined by early momentum, as the visitors scored three times in the opening frame. Cole Caufield opened the scoring with a snap shot, assisted by Phillip Danault and Alexandre Carrier, to give Montreal a 1-0 lead.
Dallas responded quickly when Wyatt Johnston tallied his third goal of the season, assisted by Mikko Rantanen and Miro Heiskanen, to tie the game at 1-1. However, the Canadiens regained control as Alex Newhook scored his second goal of the night on a backhand attempt, assisted by Noah Dobson and Lane Hutson, to make it 2-1.
Caufield then added his second goal of the game, assisted by Adam Engstrom and Juraj Slafkovský, to extend the lead to 3-1 before the intermission. The first period alone featured four goals from Montreal and one from Dallas, establishing a clear disparity in offensive execution.
Second Period Extends the Lead
Montreal continued its offensive pressure into the second period, extending their advantage to four goals. Newhook found the back of the net again with his third goal of the game, this time assisted by Chris Kreider and Noah Dobson, to make the score 4-1.
The Stars managed to pull one goal back, with Jamie Benn scoring his second goal of the season on a wrist shot, assisted by Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston, to cut the deficit to 4-2. Despite the Stars' effort, the Canadiens maintained a comfortable two-goal cushion heading into the final period.
