Darrion Williams has officially signed with Texas Tech for the 2026-27 season, marking his return to the program after a year away. Head coach Grant McCasland announced the signing, which follows Williams' time at NC State last season.

Before his stint at NC State, Williams had a notable career at Texas Tech. During his junior year in 2024-25, he averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. His performance earned him All-Big 12 First Team honors and helped lead the Red Raiders to the Elite Eight in the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

At NC State, he maintained strong performance, leading the Wolfpack with an average of 14.0 points per game, along with 151 rebounds, 92 assists, and 35 steals.

The opportunity for Williams to return stems from a recent U.S. District Court ruling that allows players from the high school class of 2022, who have exhausted their fourth season of college eligibility, to compete for a fifth season. This ruling has affected rosters nationwide, allowing programs like Texas Tech to add experienced players late in the recruiting process.

Williams' return is significant for Texas Tech as they prepare for the upcoming season, especially since he is recognized as one of the players in the Big 12. His previous success with the Red Raiders sets a high standard for his performance this season.

Sherman is about 60 miles north of Dallas.
