SHERMAN, Texas – A Bonham man was sentenced to federal prison for his role in a firearms conspiracy, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas. Raymundo Duran Baza, 21, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in the business of dealing firearms without a license.
On September 4, 2026, U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale sentenced Baza to 60 months in federal prison. Prosecutors stated that Baza was responsible for buying and re-selling firearms and Machine Gun Conversion Devices for profit.
According to information presented in court, from September 2024 through October 2024, Baza and at least one other person conspired to engage in the business of dealing in firearms while not being a licensed firearms dealer. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maureen Smith. U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced the sentencing.
The release notes that the case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative that coordinates federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement efforts to combat violent crime. As a component of Operation Take Back America, the program emphasizes rapid federal response, strategic partnerships, and accountability through prosecution.
