Alvarez drives in two in 4-0 victory

The Houston Astros defeated the Athletics 4-0 on Saturday, August 22, at Daikin Park in Houston. The Astros improved their record to 65-64, while the Athletics fell to 49-80. Yordan Alvarez was the offensive catalyst, driving in two runs on the day. The game saw exactly zero home runs, with all four Houston runs coming off base hits and sacrifice flies.

Scoring unfolds in the middle innings

Houston took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Pedro Paredes scored on a sacrifice fly by Walker. The Astros extended their advantage in the fifth inning. First, Alvarez doubled to center field, allowing Allen to cross the plate for the second run.

Immediately following that, Paredes doubled to right field, scoring Alvarez to make it 3-0. The final run was added in the seventh inning when Alvarez doubled to shortstop, driving in Delgado for the 4-0 margin. The Athletics failed to score throughout the contest.

Pitching performance

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for the Astros. He pitched five innings, allowing one hit, no earned runs, three walks, and striking out four batters. Bennett Sousa recorded the save, pitching one inning with two hits, no earned runs, no walks, and three strikeouts.

Bryan Abreu pitched one inning, allowing no hits or earned runs, walking two batters, and striking out two. Steven Okert and Enyel De Los Santos each pitched one inning, allowing no hits, no earned runs, no walks, and recording no strikeouts.

For the Athletics, J.T. Ginn took the loss. He pitched five innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, two walks, and striking out four batters.

Elvis Alvarado pitched one inning, allowing one hit, no earned runs, no walks, and striking out one batter. Drew Rom pitched one and one-third innings, allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out one batter. Hayden Juenger pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing no hits, no earned runs, no walks, and recording no strikeouts.
