Sixth-Inning Surge Defines Win

Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker and infielder Jose Altuve helped orchestrate a decisive offensive burst that carried the team to a 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field on Friday. The game’s turning point arrived in the sixth inning, where Houston compiled eight runs to take control of the contest.

The inning began with one run on a single by Jeremy Peña that allowed Yordan Alvarez to cross the plate. Houston immediately added momentum when Tucker doubled to left field, driving in three runs to give the Astros a 4-5 lead. The surge continued as Alex Bregman launched a home run to left field, adding two more runs and extending the advantage to 6-5.

Houston’s offense did not stop there. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring one run, before Peña walked to bring in another, pushing the score to 8-5. The eighth run of the inning came on a walk by Peña that allowed Alvarez to score, making it 9-5 before the White Sox could respond.

White Sox Early Lead Vanishes

Chicago held a 5-0 advantage entering the sixth inning, built on early scoring and defensive lapses by Houston. The White Sox struck first in the top of the first inning. Andrew Vaughn hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Luis Robert Jr. to score.

In the same frame, Yoán Moncada singled to right, scoring one run, and later scored when Andrew Benintendi hit a ground-rule double that allowed Moncada to score from third.

The White Sox added another run in the fifth inning when Benintendi scored on a wild pitch by Houston starter Kai-Wei Teng. Another wild pitch by Teng allowed Benintendi to score again, and a double by Moncada later in the frame plated another run, making the score 5-0.

Teng (5-6) pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits. He was relieved by AJ Blubaugh, who pitched two scoreless innings, and Bennett Sousa, who recorded a save with one scoreless frame. Bryan Abreu and Steven Okert also pitched scoreless innings, while Josh Hader closed the game with one scoreless inning.

He was followed by Bryan Hudson, who took the loss (3-3) after giving up four earned runs in 0.2 innings.
