The Houston Astros secured an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Comerica Park. The win improved Houston's record to 41-44, while the Tigers fell to 35-48. The game featured a dramatic shift in momentum, with Houston overcoming an early deficit to take control in the later innings.

Early Scoring and Home Runs

Houston struck first in the second inning when Smith homered 380 feet to left field, driving in Walker for a 2-0 lead. Detroit responded in the third inning. After Altuve grounded into a double play that allowed Peña to score, making it 3-0, the Tigers exploded for four runs. Carpenter homered 390 feet to right center, scoring McGonigle, Keith, and Torkelson to give Detroit a 4-3 advantage.

Houston tied the game in the fourth inning. Peña singled to center field, allowing Diaz to score, followed by Torkelson doubling to left to score Rogers, putting the Tigers ahead 5-4. In the fifth, Lee homered to left center for Detroit, extending their lead to 6-4. Houston began chipping away at the deficit in the seventh when Walker singled to left, scoring Paredes to make it 6-5.

Decisive Eighth Inning

The game remained tight until the eighth inning. Peña singled to center field, and Diaz scored on an error by center fielder Outman, tying the game at 6-6. The decisive moment came immediately after. Paredes doubled to right field, scoring both Peña and Vázquez to give Houston an 8-6 lead that would hold for the final out.

Pitching Performances

Houston’s bullpen was critical in preserving the win. AJ Blubaugh earned the win (4-2) after pitching two hitless innings with two strikeouts. Bryan King (9) and Josh Hader (7) secured the save with perfect innings of relief. Kai-Wei Teng started for Houston, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing four earned runs on eight hits. Steven Okert contributed 1.1 innings with one earned run allowed.

For Detroit, Framber Valdez pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Drew Anderson (5) and Drew Sommers (3) provided relief before Will Vest (3-5) took the loss after allowing two earned runs in one inning. Jacob Waguespack closed out the game with one scoreless inning.
