Clement’s 10th-inning homer lifts Blue Jays over Astros, 5-4

Clement breaks the tie

Three home runs were part of the scoring, and Clement delivered the last one in the 10th inning to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

Clement homered to left, a 391-foot drive that also scored Urías, putting Toronto ahead 5-3. Houston answered in the bottom of the 10th when Alvarez singled to right and Peña scored. Alvarez was out stretching at second on the play, and the Houston Astros challenged, but the call on the field was upheld.

Astros strike first

Houston took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left. Walker then doubled to left to bring in Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to score Walker.

Toronto cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, making it 3-1. Sánchez followed with a 398-foot homer to right, scoring Okamoto and tying the game 3-3.

Hunter Brown worked six innings for Houston, allowing three hits and three earned runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. Jameson Taillon pitched four innings for Toronto, giving up six hits and three earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

Bullpens shape the finish

Toronto got two innings from Spencer Miles, who allowed two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one inning with no earned runs and no walks.

Louis Varland earned the win to move to 4-4 after one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Chase Lee recorded his first save after one inning with one hit, no earned runs, no walks and no strikeouts.

For Houston, Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1, after allowing two hits and one earned run with no walks and one strikeout in one inning.

Records

The Blue Jays improved to 54-61. The Astros fell to 59-57. Attendance was 27,751.
