Sherman Independent School District law enforcement personnel are finalizing security protocols ahead of the grand opening of the Tommy Hudspeth Athletic Complex this Friday evening.
District Police Chief Heath Wester noted that the department is bracing for increased duties as the facility hosts its first major event. The new home of the Sherman Bearcats will see a large influx of spectators, requiring comprehensive coverage across the grounds.
Wester confirmed that officers have conducted multiple briefing sessions to ensure readiness for the varsity football team's debut on the gridiron. He stated that the department feels prepared to manage the crowd and welcome attendees.
Spectators planning to attend the event should be aware of specific entry requirements. The district is maintaining its existing clear bag policy, requiring all guests to pass through metal detectors at the entrance gates.
There is one minor adjustment to the rules for this opening night. Attendees will be permitted to bring in unopened, clear bottles of water, which Wester identified as the only change from standard procedures.
