A power outage disrupted operations at several businesses near a busy intersection in Sherman on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at the northeast corner of US 75 and US 82, where local retailers and restaurants experienced a loss of electricity for approximately 90 minutes.
Oncor identified the cause of the outage as a truck that struck a utility pole around 1 p.m. The impact caused overhead wires to become tangled, which subsequently blew fuses. The utility company stated that the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision left the scene after the accident.
The power failure extended beyond the commercial properties, affecting traffic infrastructure at the interchange. Traffic signals on the service roads stopped functioning, leading to significant backups in the area. At one point, Sherman police officers were dispatched to the location to manually direct traffic flow.
Local businesses reported operational difficulties during the blackout. The Rib Crib restaurant, located in the affected zone, was unable to serve its full menu due to the lack of power. The outage impacted the bustling corner of the intersection, leaving multiple major retailers without service for the duration of the incident.
