Sherman Police Department confirmed the death of Lisa Windland, a 68-year-old resident, following a search that began Monday evening. Authorities located her body in a creek near South Highway 75 on Tuesday night.

Officers received a call around 9:30 p.m. Monday regarding Windland’s disappearance at a facility in the 800 block of West Center Street. Initial reports indicated she did not meet the criteria for an endangered missing person due to cognitive impairment or other conditions. Despite this assessment, police initiated a search operation that continued through the night and into the following morning.

Sherman PD stated that additional information received on Tuesday established that Windland qualified as an endangered missing person. This determination prompted the issuance of a Silver Alert through the Texas Department of Public Safety. The department noted that Windland was last seen near the intersection of Highway 75 and Center Street.

As the search expanded across the city, Sherman PD requested assistance from Texas Search and Rescue. Members of TEXSAR located Windland’s body at approximately 8:47 p.m. Tuesday.

In a statement, the police department expressed sadness over the outcome and extended condolences to Windland’s family. The department also thanked TEXSAR for their support and acknowledged community members who shared information via social media during the search.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding Windland’s death.
