The Sherman City Council has given final approval to two major planned developments that will span more than 300 acres across the city. The vote was unanimous, and the projects are designed to accommodate the area's expanding population.
The first project, named Joiner Ranch, is situated on the far north side of Sherman near Highway 691. This site will include a combination of commercial and residential structures.
The second project, Sherman Lakes, is located on the south side of the city. It will feature mixed residential housing options, including single-family homes and townhouses.
Prior to the council vote, some residents living near the Sherman Lakes site expressed concerns about the scale of the new construction. One neighbor noted that the existing properties in the area are large ranch-style homes, and they objected to the smaller size of the proposed units.
In response to these concerns, city officials worked with the developer to modify the plan. The city requested that the developer reduce the density along the edges of the Sherman Lakes site to minimize the impact on current residents. The developer agreed to these changes and presented an updated blueprint to the council.
