TCU fell 21-13 to Central Florida in Orlando, dropping to 2-2 and leaving the Horned Frogs without a victory in two Power Four games. The Big 12 opener for both teams followed a game in which TCU committed 11 penalties totaling 86 yards, had two fewer turnovers than UCF and produced 1.2 yards per rushing attempt.
The loss altered the setup for TCU’s home meeting with No. 9 BYU on Oct. 3. TCU had hoped to open 4-0 and bring ESPN’s “College GameDay” to Fort Worth, but the team has scored an average of 11.5 points per game through its first month.
Jaden Craig, an offseason transfer from Harvard, remains ahead of sophomore Adam Schobel. Schobel did not appear as a freshman in 2025 and has made one pass this season. In games against North Carolina and UCF, Craig completed 45 of 72 throws for 485 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns.
He also had minus-38 yards on 10 rushing attempts, with sacks included in college rushing totals. The report said his receivers have provided limited help, while Craig has struggled when the pocket breaks down.
Craig signed with TCU for more money than Schobel, making a change a financial and personnel decision. Craig could start against BYU, while Schobel’s first start could come at Baylor on Oct. 17 after the bye week. Sonny Dykes has previously replaced injured starters, including Chandler Morris with Max Duggan in 2022 and Josh Hoover in 2023. Further details were not provided.
