Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino will miss the rest of the season because of a leg injury sustained in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. Coach Dave Aranda had regarded Tezino as one of Baylor’s leading performers on the interior after the season opener, and Aranda said the team would miss the work that helped him reach that level.

Tezino had recorded two sacks against Auburn, making an early contribution to the Bears’ defense. His absence is expected to give Baylor’s other defensive linemen greater responsibilities. Aranda pointed to Braylen Jackson as a player who could see more opportunities after contributing against the run. He called Jackson physical and said his ability to defend the run provides confidence to the team.

Baylor began the season with its defensive line considered a major strength, but Tezino’s injury will challenge the unit’s depth for the rest of the schedule. The Bears were already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the season opener against Auburn.
