Baylor will turn to Nate Bennett for the first college start of his career when it hosts Prairie View A&M in Week 2. DJ Lagway has been ruled out with a high-ankle sprain from the Bears' season opener against Auburn, Pete Thamel reported.

Lagway stayed in Baylor's 17-16 loss after suffering the injury. He completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Coach Dave Aranda had called Lagway day to day earlier in the week, while On3 reported that Lagway had tried to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for the game.

Baylor is 0-1 after scoring a touchdown in the final seconds against Auburn and failing on a two-point attempt that would have won the game. The source said it was unclear whether Lagway's health influenced the decision to attempt the conversion. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend and then open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.

No further details were provided about Lagway's recovery timeline.
