The Dallas Cowboys have a new running back on their roster, adding Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons while releasing Israel Abanikanda. The change followed a 69-yard rushing performance against the New York Giants in Week 1 and opened a roster spot for Goodson.
Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets in 2023. At Pitt in 2022, he rushed 239 times for 1,431 yards and scored 20 touchdowns. He did not secure a consistent role during his NFL career before Dallas released him.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front disrupted the running attack early, with penetration causing problems and Dallas being outplayed physically at the line of scrimmage. He also said Javonte Williams struggled to find openings at the beginning of the game, while the Cowboys adjusted following halftime. The report was published by Sports Yahoo.
