The Dallas Cowboys reportedly added running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that will require surgery and end his season. The signing gives Dallas another back while it adjusts its running back group. Davis also had been contributing on special teams, where he played 304 snaps over the previous two seasons.
Emari Demercado took the No. 2 role against the Giants, carrying twice for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams. Williams had 12 of Dallas’ 18 rushing attempts and added five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Israel Abanikanda had previously been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and Goodson’s arrival could affect his status, though that was not clear.
Goodson, 25, spent the last three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 33 games and carrying 54 times for 264 yards, or 4.9 yards per attempt. He played at Iowa, where his final season included 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns, an All-Big Ten selection and a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.
Listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds, he was an undrafted free agent signed by Green Bay in 2023 before being released. Indianapolis later added him, and after the Colts released him, he attended Atlanta’s training camp, returned to the Falcons’ practice squad after clearing waivers and then signed with Dallas.
