The Houston Texans have received encouraging updates on wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a severe knee injury. However, general manager Nick Caserio has stated that the organization is not rushing his return.
Currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, Dell will be absent for a minimum of four games during the regular season as he continues to heal from a dislocated kneecap along with multiple ligament tears sustained in December 2024.
Caserio mentioned that while Dell is making strides in his recovery, he still needs to regain his top-end speed, which is vital for his playing style. Improvements in his quickness and route-running have been noted, yet the Texans remain committed to ensuring he can operate at the required high speeds for NFL success.
Dell's injury kept him out for the entirety of the 2025 season, necessitating extensive rehabilitation. Caserio emphasized that being close to returning does not mean he is ready for game action. The team is prioritizing Dell's complete recovery rather than addressing immediate needs at the wide receiver position.
In Dell's absence, other receivers such as Boutte and Noel will have opportunities to step up and develop chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud. This time will also allow the Texans to evaluate their offensive needs without Dell, as they focus on his ability to return to his previous performance levels.
