The Cowboys' secondary sustained another setback when safety Jalen Thompson injured his left leg during a second-quarter tackle against the Baltimore Ravens. His leg moved awkwardly on the play, and he could not put weight on it while leaving the field for evaluation in the blue medical tent. Thompson is listed as questionable to return with a hamstring injury.
Dallas had promoted slot defender Reddy Steward from the practice squad before the game. Rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs, who has college experience at safety, is also on the practice squad. Alijah Clark took Thompson's spot beside Markquese Bell. Bell was called for a defensive pass interference penalty that helped set up a first-half touchdown by Derrick Henry.
The Cowboys already had free safety Malik Hooker sidelined by a forearm injury from Week 1. Starting cornerback Cobie Durant was lost in Week 2 with a hamstring issue, and PJ Locke, who replaced Hooker, is out because of a foot injury. Thompson's condition and the effect on Dallas' defensive approach were not yet clear.
