Baylor junior quarterback DJ Lagway is doubtful for the Week 3 matchup with Louisiana Tech after an ankle sprain kept him out of the Bears' victory over Prairie View A&M. The injury occurred in Baylor's season-opening loss to Auburn, which Lagway played after transferring from Florida.
Nate Bennett is expected to start if Lagway is unavailable. In his first start, Bennett completed 26 passes on 34 attempts, producing 314 yards and three touchdowns. He added 13 rushing yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions. Edward Griffin is listed as QB2, with Quinn Murphy at QB3.
Coach Dave Aranda said earlier in the week that Lagway participated in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work. The injury is not expected to sideline him for a month or more, although his availability in an emergency against Louisiana Tech has not been determined.
On3's Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes Lagway can return for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday.
