The SMU Mustangs are looking to bolster their receiving corps with the addition of two transfers, Jalen Hale from Alabama and Yannick Smith from East Carolina. This move comes after the departure of their top two receivers from the previous season, who collectively recorded over 1,400 receiving yards and nine touchdowns before graduating.

Sherman, Texas, is closely following the team's preparations as they gear up for their season opener against Florida State on September 7.

Quarterback Kevin Jennings is currently recovering from a hand injury, limiting his ability to work with key offensive players. In his absence, redshirt freshman quarterback Ty Hawkins has stepped in, highlighting Smith's size and ability to make contested catches, as well as Hale's speed and elusiveness.

Hale, a former five-star recruit, faced challenges at Alabama due to a severe knee injury but is now regaining his explosive playmaking ability at SMU.

Wide receivers coach Rob Likens praised Hale's SEC experience and toughness, while noting Smith's impressive stats of over 1,000 receiving yards and eight touchdowns at East Carolina. With senior Yamir Knight returning and sophomore Jalen Cooper expected to take on a larger role, the Mustangs are focused on building team chemistry as fall camp progresses.

Cornerbacks coach Kyle Ward remarked on the competitive edge that Hale and Smith bring, enhancing the overall performance of the team.
