Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson can pursue a return to the field after Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court issued a temporary injunction. The ruling was reported by sports.yahoo.com, citing Chip Brown of Horns247. Hutson had been declared ineligible before the team’s Sept. 7 game against Ohio State.
Coach Steve Sarkisian said that day that an NCAA issue involving the lineman was separate from the court matter and remained unresolved.
The order came near Texas’ SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, but it does not establish when Hutson will play. His status for that game was uncertain. Sarkisian was set to speak with local media on Thursday, when he might offer more information.
Texas has continued to receive reliable play at both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski became the starter at left guard, although fall-camp expectations had favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore for the job. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson’s return to the team surprised him and that he was pleased to have Hutson back.
Guard Brandon Baker also called Hutson a leader and positive presence in the locker room, saying he had performed well during camp.
