Dominant Season Opener
Arch Manning accounted for four total touchdowns on Saturday, leading the No. 5 Texas Longhorns to a decisive 59-7 victory over the Texas State Bobcats at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The win improves Texas’ record to 1-0, while the Bobcats drop to 0-1 in their season opener.
First Half Surge
The Longhorns established control early, scoring 14 points in the first quarter alone. Cam Coleman caught a 6-yard pass from Manning for the opening touchdown, followed by Ryan Wingo’s 8-yard reception later in the period. Texas extended its lead to 21-0 in the second quarter when Raleek Brown broke loose for a 13-yard run.
The momentum shifted further with a defensive score as Graceson Littleton returned a fumble 59 yards for another touchdown, making the score 28-0 before halftime.
Texas State finally responded late in the second period. Davian Jackson scored on a 4-yard run, bringing the Bobcats within 21 points at 28-7 going into the break.
Third Quarter Expansion
The Longhorns did not slow down after the intermission, pouring on 21 more points in the third quarter. Manning connected with Coleman again for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Hollywood Smothers added a 13-yard reception to extend the lead to 42-7. Brown continued his rushing dominance with a 21-yard touchdown run, pushing the margin to 49-7.
Final Period and Stats
Texas added two more scores in the fourth quarter. Gianni Spetic kicked a 48-yard field goal to make it 52-7. James Simon capped the scoring with a 7-yard run, finalizing the 59-7 result.
Manning completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns, though he threw one interception. Ryan Wingo was the primary target, hauling in seven receptions for 121 yards and one touchdown. Smothers contributed on the ground with 10 carries for 70 yards.
For Texas State, Brad Jackson started at quarterback, completing 15 of 23 passes for 150 yards and one interception. Jaylen Jenkins led the Bobcat rushers with six carries for 34 yards, while Tucker Cusano was the top receiver with three catches for 58 yards. The game drew an attendance of 102,738 at Austin’s stadium.
