Nimmo Delivers in the Ninth

Jake Nimmo’s single to center field in the ninth inning provided the winning run, lifting the Texas Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday at Globe Life Field. The win improved the Rangers’ record to 49-47, while the Astros fell to 47-51.

Nimmo had already been a factor earlier in the game, driving in a run with a triple in the fifth inning. His late-game heroics capped a back-and-forth contest that featured three home runs and several momentum shifts.

Early Astros Lead

The Astros took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. Jose Altuve homered to left center in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, the Rangers began to chip away at the lead in the fifth inning when Nimmo tripled to right, scoring Marcus Semien to make it 3-2. The Astros added another run in the seventh when Yordan Alvarez singled, scoring two runs to extend their lead to 4-2.

Rangers Rally Back

The Rangers tied the game in the eighth inning. Josh Smith homered to left to make it 4-3, and then Nick Gordon singled to center, scoring two runs to take a 5-4 lead. The Astros responded immediately with a home run from Yordan Alvarez to left, tying the game at 5-5.

Late Inning Action

The game remained tied until the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, Nimmo singled to center field, scoring Adolis Garcia and securing the 6-5 win for Texas.

Houston’s starting pitcher, Cristian Javier, pitched 3.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He was followed by Enyel De Los Santos, Bryan Abreu, and Steven Okert, who combined for three scoreless innings. Josh Hader took the loss after pitching a scoreless inning.
