Rangers Edge Angels 5-3 Behind Quantrill's Six Scoreless Innings

Cal Quantrill threw six scoreless innings as the Texas Rangers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-3 on Sunday, August 23, at Globe Life Field. The Rangers improved to 65-66, while the Angels fell to 52-79. Attendance was 31,593.

The Rangers took control early in the bottom of the second inning. They scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Duran opened the inning with a home run to left center that traveled 403 feet.

Freeman followed with a triple to center, allowing O'Hoppe to score. Díaz then hit a sacrifice fly to center, which drove in Freeman for the third run of the inning.

The Rangers extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Díaz hit a home run to left center that traveled 421 feet. Nimmo then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Seager and advancing Langford to third. The Rangers led 5-0 at that point.

The Angels mounted a late rally in the top of the eighth inning. Neto hit a home run to left center that traveled 418 feet. Lowe hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Ballesteros. Campero singled to right, allowing Grissom to score. The Angels finished the game with three runs.

Quantrill earned the win, pitching six innings while allowing six hits and striking out six batters without walking anyone. His record improved to 6-4. Yusei Kikuchi took the loss for the Angels. He pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out four. Kikuchi's record dropped to 0-4.

Jacob Latz recorded the save, pitching one inning while allowing one hit and striking out two batters. His save count increased to 26. Tyler Alexander pitched one-third of an inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Chase Silseth pitched one-third of an inning without allowing hits or earned runs, earning his 13th save.
