DeGrom’s Dominant Start

Jacob deGrom delivered a powerful performance on the mound, securing his sixth win of the season while striking out nine batters over six innings. He allowed six earned runs on six hits and three walks. The victory came on his 38th birthday, marking a significant milestone in his career with the Rangers.

DeGrom was supported by a bullpen that managed the later innings. Jakob Junis pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one earned run while recording one strikeout. He earned the save opportunity but left with the game tied, ultimately taking the hold. Jacob Latz closed out the game, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings to record his 13th save of the campaign.

High-Scoring First Inning

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the opening frame, which featured four home runs and a total of nine runs. San Diego started strong when Sheets singled to right, allowing Tatis Jr. to score and placing Taylor at third. France then cleared the bases with a three-run home run to right field, measuring 363 feet. This blast extended the Padres' lead to 4-0.

The Rangers responded immediately. Nimmo doubled to center, driving in Pederson to make it 4-1. Osuna followed with a double to right, scoring Jung and Nimmo to tie the game at 5-5. Burger then doubled to left, bringing in Duran and Osuna to give Texas a 7-5 advantage. Díaz completed the rally with an infield single to third, scoring Burger for a 9-5 Rangers lead heading into the second inning.

Continued Offensive Output

The Rangers extended their lead in the fourth inning when France homered to center field, measuring 409 feet. This solo shot made the score 10-5, though the Padres would chip away at the deficit. Langford doubled to center, scoring Jung, but was thrown out at third. The Padres managed to tie the game at 6-6 before the Rangers regained control.

Duran singled to center in the sixth inning, scoring Jung to push the lead back to 8-6. The Padres rallied in the eighth inning. Sheets homered to right field (391 feet) to make it 8-7. Langford then hit a home run to left center (430 feet), giving San Diego a 9-8 lead. However, the Rangers’ defense held firm in the final frames to secure the victory.

The Texas Rangers finished with nine runs, while the San Diego Padres scored seven. The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an attendance of 33,406. The loss drops the Padres to a 38-36 record. The Rangers improve to 36-39. Randy Vasquez took the loss for San Diego, falling to 6-5 on the season.
