Benintendi’s big hit drives offense
Benintendi’s double in the fifth inning was the catalyst for a seven-run outburst that propelled the Chicago White Sox to a 10-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. The hit loaded the bases and eventually scored three runs, turning a tied game into a comfortable lead for the visiting team.
The White Sox offense was active throughout the contest, capitalizing on opportunities against Rangers starter Jacob deGrom. DeGrom (7-6) lasted 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out six batters. He was followed by Peyton Gray, Ben Peoples, Robby Ahlstrom, and Jose Corniell, who took the loss after giving up five earned runs in his inning of work.
Early scoring sets the tone
Chicago took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Pederson homered to right center, a 423-foot blast. The Rangers responded in the second inning with a run of their own. Carter singled to right field, allowing Duran to score and tie the game at 1-1 before the White Sox regained the lead.
In the third inning, Vargas doubled to left field, and Antonacci scored to make it 2-1. The momentum shifted again in the fifth inning. Antonacci singled to center field, scoring Peters to tie the game at 2-2. Moments later, Benintendi’s double to right field scored Antonacci, Vargas, and Murakami, giving Chicago a 5-2 advantage.
