Cleveland Guardians outfielders Fry and Hedges combined for three home runs to lead their team to a 9-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday. The offensive explosion helped Cleveland improve its record to 45-42, while the Rangers fell to 44-43.
The Guardians took control early in the second inning. Hedges initiated the scoring with a sacrifice bunt that allowed Rocchio to score. A series of wild pitches by Rangers pitcher MacKenzie Gore allowed Arias to score twice and advance Hedges and Schneemann. Fry then capitalized on the situation with a 380-foot home run to right center, driving in Hedges and Schneemann to give Cleveland a 5-0 lead.
Pitching and Defense
Rangers starter Gore struggled to contain Cleveland's hitters, allowing five earned runs over five innings. He struck out seven batters but also issued one walk. Cole Winn and Winston Santos followed in relief, combining for four more earned runs in three innings. Santos allowed two earned runs over two frames, striking out one batter and issuing one walk.
Cleveland's Joey Cantillo earned the win, pitching five innings with two earned runs allowed. He struck out four batters while walking five. Colin Holderman, Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin, Erik Sabrowski, and Matt Festa provided relief support. Holderman allowed one earned run in one inning. Gaddis and Herrin recorded saves, with Gaddis pitching 0.1 innings and Herrin 0.2 innings without allowing a run. Sabrowski pitched a full inning, allowing one earned run, while Festa closed the game with a perfect inning.
