Closing Pitching Dominates Close Contest
The Houston Astros secured a narrow 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday, relying on a late-inning pitching performance to hold off the visiting team at Daikin Park. The win improved Houston’s record to 57-55, while the Rangers fell to 55-56.
The game remained tight through the early innings, with both offenses finding ways to score. The Rangers took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Altuve scored on a Wade Jr. single. Houston tied the game in the third when Alvarez and Walker scored on a Trammell single, but the Rangers quickly reclaimed the lead.
Osuna and Duran scored in the fourth inning, followed by Walker and another run on a wild pitch by Astros reliever Winn. The Rangers extended their lead to 5-3 later in the fourth when Alvarez scored on a second wild pitch by Winn, a call that was upheld after a Texas challenge.
Offensive Surge Ties the Game
Houston began its comeback in the fourth inning when Osuna singled to right, allowing Carter to score. A sacrifice bunt by Díaz moved Osuna to second, and an infield single by Walker brought Peña home, cutting the deficit to 5-4. The Astros tied the game in the sixth inning when Díaz homered to right field, measuring 343 feet.
This was the second home run of the game, matching Langford’s solo shot to left field in the third.
Bullpen Holds the Line
The final innings were defined by stellar relief pitching. Ronel Blanco started for Houston, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing five runs, all earned, on five hits. He was relieved by Bennett Sousa and Enyel De Los Santos, who combined for one hit and one earned run. Steven Okert entered in the eighth inning and pitched 1.1 innings, earning the win with his scoreless outing.
