A Dominant Start

Zebby Matthews delivered a masterful performance on the mound, pitching seven innings of scoreless baseball to lead the Minnesota Twins to a decisive 12-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. Matthews (3-4) allowed just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. He was supported by a bullpen trio that kept the Rangers off the board for the final two innings. Travis Adams recorded three strikeouts in one scoreless inning, and Cody Laweryson retired the side in order despite issuing one walk.

Early Offense Sets Tone

The Twins’ offense exploded in the first inning, capitalizing on early opportunities against Rangers starter Kumar Rocker. Josh Larnach opened the scoring with a 425-foot home run to right field. Following that, Willians Buxton crossed the plate after Alex Bell singled to left, giving Minnesota a 2-0 lead.

The scoring intensified in the third inning when Austin Clemens launched a 367-foot home run to right. The blast drove in Larnach and Buxton, extending the Twins’ advantage to 5-0. The Twins did not stop there, adding four more runs in the fourth inning to break the game open. Clemens homered again, followed by a two-run single from Jackson Lewis. Bell then doubled to right, and an error by right fielder Brandon Nimmo allowed Clemens and Lewis to score. Keaschall added an RBI single to left to complete the offensive barrage.

Rangers’ Struggles Continue

Rocker (2-6) struggled to contain the Twins’ lineup, giving up six earned runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings. He was relieved by Cal Quantrill, who allowed three more earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings. Tyler Alexander and Joe Ross managed to hold the Twins at bay, combining for two scoreless innings. However, Kyle Higashioka allowed two earned runs on three hits in his inning of work, highlighting the Rangers’ inability to stop the Minnesota offense.

The Rangers managed to put runs on the board in the fourth, fifth, and ninth innings. Duran scored in the fourth, followed by Osuna in the fifth. Jackson doubled to center in the ninth, and Fedko hit a sacrifice fly to left to add two more runs. Despite the late scoring, the deficit was too large to overcome.

Final Numbers

The game was played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with an attendance of 27,463. The victory improved the Minnesota Twins’ record to 35-40, while the Texas Rangers fell to 35-38. The Twins’ ability to capitalize on early innings and their pitching staff’s ability to shut down the Rangers after the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the contest.
