A Historic Start, A Costly Finish

Jacob deGrom retired the first 15 batters he faced before the Texas Rangers fell 4-3 to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. The starter’s dominance was undeniable on the mound, striking out 12 batters while allowing only one hit and no earned runs over six complete innings.

Despite this elite performance, the Rangers could not convert their offensive opportunities into enough runs to overcome Seattle’s late-game surge. The final score was 4-3 in favor of the home team, with the Mariners improving to a 69-78 record while the Rangers dropped to 72-75.

Scoring Sequence

The game remained scoreless through two innings before the Mariners took control in the third. J.P. Crawford drove in a run, and then Pederson hit a 385-foot home run to right center, scoring Lopez to make it 2-0.

Seattle extended their lead in the fifth when Lopez reached on a bunt single, allowing Carter to score and making the count 3-0. The Rangers finally found the plate in the seventh. Canzone singled to left field, scoring Arozarena to cut the deficit to 3-1.

However, the momentum shifted immediately back to Seattle. Julio Rodríguez connected with a 410-foot home run to left center, clearing the bases as Canzone and Raleigh scored, extending the lead to 4-3.

Bullpen Decisions

The final two runs for Seattle came off the Rangers’ bullpen. Jakob Junis took the loss, allowing three hits and four earned runs without recording a strikeout. Robert Garcia followed with a scoreless inning, striking out two batters without allowing a hit.

Robby Ahlstrom closed the game, walking two batters and striking out two while allowing no hits or earned runs. For Seattle, Logan Gilbert earned the win, pitching seven innings with three hits, three earned runs, two walks, and 11 strikeouts. Gabe Speier recorded the save, pitching one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
