Sherman, Texas — State education officials have assembled a specialized working group to establish unified guidelines for compressed three-year collegiate degree programs across four-year institutions and community colleges throughout Texas. The initiative, directed by the Office of the Governor and coordinated through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, aims to significantly reduce tuition costs and accelerate workforce entry for undergraduates pursuing high-demand careers.
Under state projections, completing a bachelor's degree in three years instead of the traditional four could lower degree completion costs by up to 25 percent, generating estimated savings between $15,000 and $35,000 per student. State leaders emphasized that accelerating pathways would expand collegiate accessibility without sacrificing academic rigor.

The 13-member advisory panel brings together senior academic leaders, faculty representatives, and administrators from four-year university systems and two-year community college districts throughout the state. Participants include representatives from the University of Texas System, Texas A&M University System, University of Houston, Texas Tech University, the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, Texas Southern University, Texas State University System, Lone Star College System, Grayson College, Tyler Junior College, and South Texas College.
