Emerson will supply automation technologies for BP's Shah Deniz Compression Project, an offshore facility located off the coast of Azerbaijan. The company will deliver integrated control and safety systems for the new platform, which is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in 2029.

The US$2.9 billion project represents the next phase in developing the Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea. The facility is designed to access low-pressure gas reserves and maximize overall recovery. It will function as the central compression hub for gas originating from the Shah Deniz Alpha and Bravo platforms.

The platform is electrically powered and normally unattended. It will be equipped with four 11 MW electric-drive compressors. Operations will be managed remotely from BP's onshore Sangachal terminal, which is situated 34 miles south of Baku.

Emerson's solution includes the DeltaV Distributed Control System and the DeltaV Safety Instrumented System. These components provide process control, safety shutdown, fire and gas detection, and power management. According to the company, these systems offer real-time visibility and control of critical operations, aiming to reduce operating costs while improving efficiency, safety, and platform availability.

The project is expected to enable the production and export of approximately 1.7 trillion cubic feet of additional gas and around 25 million barrels of condensate. First gas compression from the Shah Deniz Alpha platform is expected in 2029, with the Shah Deniz Bravo platform following in 2030.

Emerson employs about 450 people in Sherman, according to local government records.
