Alvarez Leads the Way

Yordan Alvarez delivered the decisive blow in a tight contest at Daikin Park, hitting his 25th home run of the season to give the Houston Astros an early advantage over the Cleveland Guardians. The blast, which traveled 407 feet to right center field in the first inning, marked Alvarez’s 25th long ball of the year, establishing him with the most home runs in the American League.

The home run provided the Astros with a 1-0 lead that they would maintain until the bottom of the fourth inning. Alvarez later crossed the plate again when Nathaniel Paredes singled to center field, advancing Alvarez from second base and extending Houston’s margin to 2-0.

Pitching Duel Defines Game

Kai-Wei Teng earned the win for Houston, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out four batters. He effectively neutralized the Guardians' offense, limiting them to four hits and two walks. Teng’s performance was crucial in keeping the game within reach despite the Guardians’ early deficit.

On the mound for Cleveland, Slade Cecconi took the loss after allowing two earned runs on six hits over six innings. He also issued two walks and recorded one strikeout. Colin Holderman and Hunter Gaddis each pitched one inning of relief for the Guardians, combining to allow no additional runs. Holderman recorded one strikeout, while Gaddis also struck out one batter.

For the Astros, Steven Okert and Bryan King each pitched one inning of relief. Okert issued one walk but struck out three batters, while King recorded one strikeout without allowing any hits or walks. Josh Hader closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two batters to secure his fifth save of the season.

Guardians Rally Briefly

The Guardians managed to score in the fifth inning when Michael Halpin drove in a run on a groundout by Andres Gimenez. This play reduced the Astros' lead to 2-1, but Cleveland was unable to tie the game or take the lead. The final score stood at 2-1, with the Astros securing the victory.

Post-Game Records

With this win, the Houston Astros improved their record to 37-42. The Cleveland Guardians fell to 41-37. The game was played in front of 36,807 fans at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
