Trammell’s three-run homer carries Astros past Blue Jays, 7-2

Trammell changes the game

Three runs came home on Trammell’s fifth-inning homer, the only home run of the game, and the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

Trammell’s drive to right went 388 feet and scored Walker and Altuve, breaking open a game that had been tied earlier in the inning. Altuve also drove in two runs, with run-scoring singles in the fifth and seventh innings.

Astros build first, then answer

The Astros took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Diaz singled to left and Altuve scored, with Trammell moving to second. Houston made it 2-0 later in the inning when Smith singled to left, Trammell scored on an error, Smith reached second on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez and Diaz reached third on the error.

The Blue Jays tied it in the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, making it 2-2.

Houston responded in the bottom of the fifth. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell followed with the three-run homer that put the Astros ahead 6-2.

Pitching lines decide the margin

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, improving to 2-0. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out four.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning for the Astros, allowing no hits, no earned runs and no walks with one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one hit, no earned runs and no walks while striking out one.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1. He pitched three innings and allowed seven hits, six earned runs and four walks with three strikeouts.

Final notes

Houston added its final run in the seventh when Altuve singled to center and Walker scored, pushing the lead to 7-2.

Trey Yesavage pitched two innings for Toronto, allowing no hits, no earned runs and one walk. Braydon Fisher pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Brendon Little allowed two hits, one earned run and one walk in one inning, and Mason Fluharty allowed no hits, no earned runs and one walk in one inning.

The Astros improved to 59-56, while the Blue Jays fell to 53-61. Attendance was 30,450.
