Fourth Quarter Surge
The Las Vegas Raiders overcame a significant halftime deficit to defeat the Houston Texans 22-20 on Friday night. The victory was secured in the final period when quarterback Aidan O’Connell accounted for both of his team’s fourth-quarter scores, including the decisive touchdown that shifted the momentum.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Raiders trailed 20-3 after a dominant first half by Houston. However, Las Vegas tightened its defense and relied on ground game execution to chip away at the lead. Dylan Laube provided the initial spark in the third period with a 4-yard run, cutting the deficit to 17-10.
The turning point arrived in the fourth quarter. Dare Ogunbowale broke through for a 19-yard touchdown run, narrowing the gap to 20-16 despite a failed extra-point attempt by Kansei Matsuzawa. The Raiders did not stop there.
Late in the game, O’Connell took the ball up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown run. Although Matsuzawa’s second point-after-attempt also failed, the six points proved enough to secure the win.
Texans Hold Early Control
Houston established an early advantage that seemed insurmountable for most of the game. The Texans jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, fueled by two critical plays: a 20-yard run by Woody Marks and an 80-yard interception return by Wade Woodaz. Both scores were followed by successful kicks from Ka’imi Fairbairn.
Fairbairn added a 51-yard field goal before halftime to make it 17-0. The Raiders got on the board in the second quarter when Matt Gay kicked a 52-yard field goal, making the score 17-3 at halftime. Fairbairn extended Houston’s lead to 20-3 with a 57-yard field goal early in the second half.
