A fire on North Ricketts Street in Sherman resulted in the total loss of a family's home on Sunday afternoon. The Redden family is now asking for help after their residence, which they had remodeled over the past two years to be ADA compliant, was engulfed in flames.
Whitney Redden reported that a friend visiting the home detected smoke shortly after arriving. Upon investigation, she discovered flames in the sunroom and immediately called 911. Within moments, the fire spread rapidly, reaching the first floor of the house.
Neighbor Ryan Flournoy, whose wife noticed the fire while letting out their dogs, quickly responded by calling emergency services. He then jumped the fence to assist the Reddens, helping to rescue Whitney's husband, Rusty, who has a disability. All three individuals inside the home managed to escape without injury.
Despite their survival, the family lost significant belongings in the fire, including Rusty's glasses, wheelchair, medications, and important documents. Additionally, musical equipment and recordings that Rusty had been working on were destroyed. The family is currently staying in an Airbnb and is in need of a vehicle, clothing, and other essentials.
