The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have received fines of $500,000 each due to a brawl that occurred during their joint practice earlier this week. The NFL emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, particularly during joint practices, where unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern over the hefty fines and plans to appeal the decision. He remarked that the actions during the practice, which included players removing their helmets and engaging in fights, do not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones stated, acknowledging the league's position on the matter.
Should the fines remain in effect, Jones indicated he would also consider fining the players involved in the altercations. Notably, linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was mentioned for his role in ripping off the helmet of Saints offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and throwing a punch at offensive lineman Erik McCoy.
Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was also involved in several incidents, including a confrontation with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson and executing a German suplex on Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson. Further information regarding the appeal process or potential player fines has yet to be released.
