Baylor University's athletic director, Doug McNamee, has not set a specific win total that head coach Dave Aranda must achieve to remain in his role after the 2026 season. Instead, McNamee stressed the necessity of building momentum and enhancing support for the football program.

In comments reported by CBS Sports college football writer Shehan Jeyarajah, McNamee stated that the focus should not be on a magic number of wins, but rather on the overall atmosphere and engagement surrounding the program. He expressed the need for a competitive environment within the Big 12 and the importance of adapting to changes in name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

McNamee also called for increased commitment from fans, urging them to attend games and contribute to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He noted that greater investment from supporters is crucial, whether through watching games or providing financial backing.

As Aranda enters his seventh season at Baylor, his record stands at 36-37, following a successful 2021 season. However, the team has faced challenges recently, with a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the past four years.

McNamee took charge of the athletic department in December, and the upcoming season, starting September 5 against Auburn, will be pivotal for assessing the program's direction and support.
