TCU has dismissed safety Jacob Fields from its football team less than two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a physical confrontation with a teammate that occurred in the locker room on August 13, according to the TCU crime and fire log.

Reports from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram describe the incident as an aggravated assault, with sources indicating that Fields was involved in a fight with an offensive player. Prior to this altercation, Fields had expressed concerns about ongoing tensions with teammates, including instances of insults and threats, but he did not receive any feedback from the coaching staff after reaching out multiple times.

Fields, who transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, was anticipated to start as free safety. In 2025, he earned recognition as the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year, starting all 12 games for Louisiana Tech. He led the team with 92 tackles and had three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups last season. No further information about the incident or its consequences has been released.
