Texas has been ranked fourth in CNBC's 2026 America's Top States for Business study, as released on July 9. This marks a decline from the second position it held the previous year. Ohio has claimed the top spot for the first time, followed by North Carolina, Virginia, and Minnesota rounding out the top five.
The study highlights Texas's strengths, ranking it first in Workforce and second in both Economy and Access to Capital. The state's robust logistics infrastructure, including major ports and international airports, contributes to its status as a leading trade and shipping hub. However, Texas scored poorly in livability, ranking 49th for Quality of Life due to high crime rates, inadequate healthcare, and a lack of inclusiveness, which negatively impacted its overall score.
Despite the drop in ranking, North Texas continues to experience significant corporate relocations and expansions. The Dallas Regional Chamber reported 119 corporate moves or expansions in 2025, the highest of any U.S. metro area. This trend is reflected in communities like Sherman, where a strong workforce and business investment are evident.
The ranking's strengths, a top-rated workforce and business investment, play out across North Texas communities including Sherman.
