A jury in Collin County convicted Karmelo Anthony of murder Tuesday, June 9, in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, CBS Texas reported.

The stabbing occurred April 2, 2025, during a Frisco ISD track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, according to CBS Texas.

Anthony, now 19, was charged in Metcalf's death. Prosecutors argued that Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation. Defense attorneys argued that Anthony acted in self-defense.

Jurors found Anthony guilty of murder.

Punishment phase

The case proceeds to sentencing. CBS Texas reported that the punishment range for the murder conviction is five to 99 years or life in prison.
