Offensive Explosion
Five home runs fueled San Diego’s offensive output as the Padres defeated the Houston Astros 7-2 at Petco Park. The victory improved San Diego’s record to 62-57, while Houston fell to 60-59.
The scoring began in the second inning when Varsho launched a 395-foot home run to right-center field, driving in Trammell to give the Padres an early 2-0 lead. Houston responded later in the frame with Merrill homering to center field for a 411-foot shot, making the score 2-1.
The game changed course in the fourth inning when Tatis Jr. hit a 421-foot home run to left field. The blast included runs from Rengifo and Fermin, extending San Diego’s advantage to 4-2.
Pitching Performances
Randy Vasquez earned the win for San Diego, pitching five innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out one batter. He was supported by a strong relief effort.
Kyle Hart pitched one scoreless inning with one strikeout to secure his sixth hold. Bradgley Rodriguez followed with two hitless innings, also recording one strikeout for his ninth hold. Jeremiah Estrada closed the game with a perfect eighth inning, striking out two batters without allowing any hits or walks.
