Walker’s 10th-Inning Homer Lifts Astros Past Mariners 10-7

The game remained tightly contested through nine frames. Walker’s blast was the culmination of a high-scoring affair where both bullpens struggled in the final innings. Before the walk-off, the score was deadlocked at 7-7 after Varsho singled to left, driving in Allen with Altuve reaching second base.

Early Exchange

Seattle took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Canzone singled to right to score Arozarena, followed by Naylor’s sacrifice fly that brought Canzone home. Houston answered immediately as Alvarez homered to right on a 368-foot drive to make it 2-1.

The Mariners reclaimed the lead in the second inning. Smith tripled to left to score Walker, and Peña singled to right to bring Smith home. Paredes then reached on an infield single to third, scoring both Peña and Vázquez to extend Seattle’s advantage to 5-2.

Houston chipped away at the deficit in the sixth inning when Robles singled to left to score Naylor, making it 5-3. The Astros tied the game in the eighth inning. Donovan grounded out to shortstop to score Rodríguez, and Rodden hit a ground-rule double to right field, allowing We. Wilson to score and tying the contest at 5-5.

Pitching Struggles

Seattle’s starting pitcher George Kirby endured a tough outing, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings while striking out two batters and walking three. He was supported by relief pitchers Michael Rucker, Gabe Speier, and Eduard Bazardo, who combined to throw 4.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Houston’s starter Peter Lambert threw five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Bennett Sousa and Steven Okert each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the tie before Bryan Abreu allowed two earned runs in his frame. Josh Hader closed out the ninth inning without allowing a run, striking out two batters over one hit.

Closing Out

With the game tied 7-7 entering the 10th, Andres Munoz entered for Seattle and gave up four hits and four earned runs in 0.2 innings, taking the loss to improve his record to 5-5. Enyel De Los Santos earned the win for Houston, allowing one earned run on one hit in his inning of work.

Walker’s three-run homer was one of only two home runs hit during the game. The Astros improved their record to 63-60, while the Mariners fell to 57-66.
