Chris Murray, a fifth-year senior linebacker for Auburn, is positioning himself as a vital player after teammate JJ Faulk sustained an injury during preseason camp. The team is set to face Baylor on September 5, and Murray is making a compelling case for increased playing time, competing against Da'Shawn Womack and Jared Smith.

Auburn's coach Alex Golesh has expressed excitement about Murray's recent performance, highlighting his impressive recovery after missing the initial week and a half of camp due to injury. Golesh remarked on Murray's efforts, noting the importance of the upcoming days for his chances to secure a top spot.

Murray's football career kicked off at TCU in 2021, where he played for two seasons. He then transferred to Sam Houston State for the 2023 and 2024 seasons before joining Auburn prior to the 2025 season. In his debut year with the Tigers, he recorded 15 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 3.5 tackles for loss.

In March, he received a waiver from the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility, allowing him to join the team late in the spring practice period.

Murray reflected on his journey, stating that his experience allows him to mentor younger teammates while also focusing on his own development. As Auburn gears up for its upcoming scrimmage, the team aims to finalize its roster for the season opener against Baylor.
