The Dallas Cowboys have added Von Miller, an eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion, to their roster with a one-year contract, aiming to strengthen their pass rush. Miller, who leads active players with 136.5 career sacks, had 9.0 sacks last season while with Washington.
However, the signing has not been universally praised. Bryan Broaddus, a former Cowboys scout and current analyst for 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, criticized the move as potentially harmful and low-impact.
He pointed out that Miller's recent performance does not align with expectations for a starting edge rusher, suggesting that he would not have been signed if he were not a prominent name in the league.
Broaddus highlighted concerns about Miller's speed and ability to close on plays, arguing that the team might be better served by James Houston, who is likely to lose his spot in the rotation. Pro Football Focus ranked Miller 66th among 119 edge rushers last season, while Houston was 49th.
In response to the criticism, Miller defended his signing, stating that he can contribute significantly both on the field and as a mentor to younger players. He expressed confidence in his abilities, claiming, "I will be recognized for my contributions in that area."
