The University of Houston's football team has announced that offensive guard Shadre Hurst has earned a spot on the Preseason AP All-American First-Team. This announcement was made on Tuesday, emphasizing Hurst's significant contributions to the team.
Earlier this month, Hurst was also recognized on the Lombardi Trophy and Outland Trophy Preseason Watch Lists. He has a prior connection with head coach Willie Fritz and offensive line coach Eman Naghavi from their time at Tulane, where he achieved All-American recognition and received All-AAC honors in The American Conference.
Hurst has shown remarkable performance on the field, holding an 80.0 pass block grade since 2023, placing him as the second highest among active FBS offensive linemen. Over more than 1,200 passing snaps, he has permitted only one sack, demonstrating his effectiveness and reliability.
In 2025, he was acknowledged as the highest graded offensive lineman in the American Athletic Conference and was ranked sixth among guards nationally by Pro Football Focus (PFF). During his time at Tulane, he played a pivotal role in winning three conference championships from 2022 to 2025, while allowing just one sack throughout four seasons.
The Cougars are set to kick off their new college football season on September 5, hosting Oregon State at TDECU Stadium, with the game starting at 11 a.m.
