As the 2026 season nears, Baylor University's football team is witnessing a competitive race for the Star position. The arrival of Joe Klanderman as the new defensive coordinator has brought in several players from Kansas State, enhancing the defensive lineup.
Bo Onu and Daniel Cobbs are among the primary contenders for this pivotal role. Onu, a safety standing 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds, participated in 11 games last season, making nine tackles as a true freshman. Klanderman has noted significant growth in Onu's skills and is optimistic about his progress in the upcoming season.
Cobbs, who has previous experience with Klanderman, logged 415 snaps last season and is also in contention for the starting position.
Klanderman remarked on the close nature of the competition, stating that both players have demonstrated considerable potential. He expressed confidence in their abilities to perform in critical situations. Despite the tight race, Klanderman intends to utilize both Onu and Cobbs throughout the season, highlighting the value of keeping players fresh by rotating them.
He mentioned that having both players on the field for equal snaps contributes significantly to the team's performance.
