The Houston Texans have secured wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots through a trade completed earlier this week. In exchange, the Texans sent a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed to New England. This move follows the injury of second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during practice.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the trade after a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, emphasizing Boutte's potential to enhance the team's offense. Ryans referred to Boutte as a valuable addition, particularly in light of Higgins' absence. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans remarked, highlighting Boutte's playmaking ability and his experience against the Texans in past games.
Boutte, a sixth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown consistent performance during his tenure in New England. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns, playing a key role in the Patriots' Super Bowl run.
This achievement represented his second straight season with more than 30 receptions and 500 receiving yards, while also doubling his touchdown total from the previous year.
The Texans aim to fill the gap left by Higgins with Boutte, who is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as a deep-threat receiver. Ryans expressed hope for Boutte's ongoing development, noting his youth and potential for growth. The Texans are optimistic that Boutte's established record and drive in a contract year will bolster their passing game this season.
